Box Score RUSTON, LA – After a slow start in the Louisiana Tech Invitational, the University of the Incarnate Word softball team was able to close out the tournament on a two game winning streak. On Sunday afternoon, UIW defeated Arkansas – Pine Bluff 3-2 in another one run game.
LATE RALLY PUTS CARDINALS AHEAD
Kristen Hebert made her first start of the season in the pitching circle for the Cardinals (2-3, 0-0) and she went five strong innings giving up five hits and just one earned run.
Arkansas – Pine Bluff jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Paige Garcia singled to left field scoring Alexandria Taylor. However, Hebert shutdown the Golden Lions the remainder of her outing, which gave the Cardinals an opportunity for a comeback.
In the top of the sixth, UIW did just that. With the bases loaded,
Danielle Ramirez tripled to right center field clearing the bases for UIW and giving the Cardinals a 3-1 advantage.
Sarah Leal replaced Hebert in the pitching circle for the final two innings, and although she did allow an earned run in the bottom of the sixth, she was able to notch her first save of the season.
UIW finished the game with five hits and one error while the Golden Lions had seven hits and zero errors. Ramirez was the hero at the plate for UIW and she accounted for all three RBI.
Lacie Stevens continued her hot start by going 1-2 with a run scored.
Garcia led the Golden Lions at the plate with two hits and two RBI. Karia Beth Hall pitched all seven innings giving up three earned runs on five hits.

th at 9 a.m. when they take on the University of Oklahoma in Houston, TX.
