LAKE CHARLES, La.– The quest for a Southland Conference championship begins Thursday as the University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball opens conference play at McNeese at 6:30 p.m. This season marks the first the Cardinals are eligible for conference and NCAA play.

Summary:
Shawn Johnson's three-pointer at the buzzer brought UIW within three of Florida at the break, 37-34, but the Gators, a team ranked as high as fifth earlier in the season, outscored the Cardinals, 38-24, in the second half en route to a 75-60 win on Dec. 22. The Gators scored 33 points off of 23 UIW turnovers.
Charles Brown III each scored a led the Cardinals with 13 points, while
Konstantin Kulikov scored four points in his first action of the season.
On the season,
Simi Socks is T-12th in the conference with 15.0 points per game. Johnson is T-3rd with 2.3 steals per game. His 1.3 blocks per game ranks him T-7th in the conference while
