NATCHITOCHES, Louisiana – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team was swept by the Lady Demons of Northwestern State University in three sets. The Cardinals are now 2-4 in conference play and 3-10 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Demons took an early 3-0 lead to open set one.
Autumn Lockley blazed one over the net to score the first point for the Cardinals. UIW was only down two points until NSU went on a four point streak to extend its lead 9-3. The Cardinals could not find a rhythm and their errors cost them set one. NSU registered ten kills and three errors to be more efficient over UIW and open the match with a 25-15 success.
Sets two and three both ended in 25-21 victories for the Lady Demons. The Cardinals led through much of the second, but NSU got its attack going and tied the score 10-10. The Lady Demons later took advantage of the set causing UIW to trail 15-17. The fighting Cardinals could not outlast NSU. The Lady demons took set two to lead the match 2-0. UIW went on a seven point streak in the final set for a 10-5 lead in hopes of keeping the match alive. NSU later responded with five straight points to edge over the Cardinals 12-11. Kourtney Seaton and Kathryn Wristen made the last two kills to end the match in three in favor of NSU.
LEADERS
Autumn Lockley,
Julia Monday, and
Cameron Edwards each registered eight kills for UIW.
Madison Williams paced the squad with 22 assists. Defensively,
Sarea Alexander tallied six blocks and
Madelynn Miller had a total of 25 digs.
Reagan Rogers and Kourtney Seaton led the Lady Demons with 16 and eight kills respectively.
UP NEXT
UIW will travel to Conway, Arkansas as the team is set to play the University of Central Arkansas on Saturday. The match will take place at 12 p.m. in the Prince Center.
