SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team topped the Lamar University Cardinals in three sets. UIW is now 4-12 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals of UIW took an early lead to open the set. The squad went on a four point streak to extend their lead 10-5 and pressure Lamar into a timeout. UIW capitalized on its opponent's errors to take set one 25-17.
Lamar trailed UIW through much of the second. UIW registered 10 kills and four errors to be slightly more efficient over the visiting team who tallied 12 kills and five errors. Set two ended in a 25-20 victory for UIW.
The third started off in favor of Lamar as the team scored five straight points to get the set going. UIW retaliated by going on a five point streak to even the score 5-5. There were several lead changes, but in the end UIW came out on top and beat the opposing team 25-21.
LEADERS
Julia Monday led the Cardinals with 11 kills and Hope Kelly followed with nine.
Madison Williams paced the team with 32 assists and five blocks.
Madelynn Miller tallied 17 kills and
Bryaunea Hall led the UIW defense with six blocks.
Tomar Thomas and Ivette Dim registered 10 and nine kills respectively.
UP NEXT
UIW will travel to Huntsville, Texas to play Sam Houston State University. Competition will take place on October 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Johnson Coliseum.

The Cardinals will continue competition on the road in Abilene, Texas. UIW is schedule to play Abilene Christian in the Moody Coliseum at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 21.
