NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team was stumped this weekend. They dropped two Southland Conference contests in Louisiana against New Orleans and Northwestern State, 7-0. They also fell to Stephen F. Austin on Sunday, 5-2.
On Friday, the Cardinals (2-10, 0-3) could not pull together to any of the matches against New Orleans.
Rachel Sadiq (Frisco/Frisco HS) dropped her #1 singles match 6-1, 6-2 to Anna Segarra Rius. Senior
Taryn Strahl (San Antonio/Churchill HS) fell to Anja Luethi at #3 singles 6-1, 6-1.
In Natchitoches, Incarnate Word was swept by NSU on Saturday. In singles, Sadiq put up a fight against Natalya Krutova, but was taken in three sets 2-6, 6-0, 7-6 (8-6).
The Cardinals showed some fight against SFA. Their top doubles duo of Sadiq and Matea Zamunik (Jesenice, Croatia/Marko Marulic) beat Dhanielly Quevedo and Lauren Hidalgo, 6-4. They earned their two points when Strahl defeated Valeria Terentyeva in the #3 position 6-3, 6-1.
Sarah Savedra (El Paso/El Paso) joined her with a win against Lauren Hidalgo-Smith 6-7 (7-3), 6-3, 1-0 (10-2).
UIW will be back in action at home against Southeastern Louisiana on Friday at 12 p.m. They will also play UTEP on March 17 at 11 a.m.
