SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team was held down by the Southeastern Louisiana Lions at home on Friday, 6-1 in Southland Conference action.
Despite a rainy forecast the Cardinals (2-11) and Lions were able to play their match under sunny skies. Unfortunately, UIW remained winless in conference play dropping to 0-4 on the season. The duo of
Taryn Strahl (San Antonio/Churchill HS) and
Sarah Savedra (El Paso/El Paso HS) held their own in their #2 doubles match with a 6-3 win, but the Lions pulled off the other two matches to win the doubles point.
Sophomore
Maria Batchinsky (San Antonio/Alamo Heights HS) earned the lone point for UIW when she defeated Ceci Mercier 6-0,5-7, 10-7 at #5 singles.
Matea Zemunik forced her match to three sets, but lost 11-9 in the third set.
Incarnate Word will return to play on March 17 against UTEP. The matches will be played on the UIW Tennis courts at 11 a.m.
