Rain Delay Limits Play at Atchafalaya Intercollegiate

PATTERSON, LOUISIANA – The University of the Incarnate Word men's golf team is in the middle of the pack after the first round of the Atchafalaya Intercollegiate at Idlewild Golf Course on Monday. (Results)

The Cardinals shot a 304 on the par-72, 7398-yard course as they battled through the rain and a two and a half four rain delay.  The team is in eighth place and all five players shot between 75 and 77.  Freshman Chase Rios (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) led the way with a 3-over par 75.  Seniors Austin Wylie (Boerne/Boerne HS) and Myles Dumont (Eagle Lake/Rice Consolidated HS) fired matching 76's.

UIW tied for the tournament championship in 2015, but find themselves 20 strokes out of first place.  Louisiana-Monroe is leading the way with a 4-under par 284 and Central Arkansas is in second place at even par.  Nicholls, the host of the tournament, sits in third place with 291 strokes.

Wichita State is fourth with 293 strokes and they are followed by Abilene Christian (294), North Dakota State (295), University of Mobile (300), UIW (304), UT Rio Grande Valley (304), New Orleans (305), Omaha (308), South Dakota (313) and North Dakota (316).

Jack Lee of Nicholls and Luis Obiols of Central Arkansas are tied for the individual lead at 3-under par 69.  There are three other players who are one shot back at 2-under par.

The tournament was originally scheduled for three rounds, but will now be condensed to two rounds due to the weather.  The tournament will conclude with a final round on Tuesday.
