SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – One day after defeating South Dakota State, the University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches to Texas State and St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon at the Mabry Tennis Center.
In the morning match with the Bobcats, Texas State jumped out to an early lead winning a pair of doubles matches. In singles play,
Matea Zemunik picked up the team's lone victory, 6-0, 6-3 over Yadira Rubio at #2 singles.
Rachel Sadiq at #1 and
Taryn Strahl at #4 each lost tough three set matches after taking the first set.
In the afternoon match, the Cardinals took the doubles point over St. Mary's, but then they tired out in the singles matches. Strahl and
Sarah Savedra won 6-2 at #2 doubles while Zemunik and
Antea Dedic took the #3 match, 7-5.
Sadiq came back to win at #1 singles over Jamie Lee Denton 7-6, 6-3. Zemunik fell in three sets to Cristina Lopez 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 at #2 singles. The rest of the Cardinals lost in straight sets.
The Cardinals are back in action on Thursday at 2 p.m. against Tyler Junior College at home.
