SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word swimming and diving teams each hosted a home meet on Tuesday at the Anne Barshop Natatorium.  The women lost to Rice, 106-97 while the men lost to SMU, 150-91. (Results)

The women's meet did not include any diving events, but the Cardinals were nearly able to upset the Owls.  Alona Kyselova (Kiev, Ukraine) and Mariana Olguin (Toledo, Brazil) led the way with a pair of individual victories and they teamed with Natalia Hernandez (N. Vancouver, BC) and Dariia Bielousova (Kiev, Ukraine) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:34.91.

Kyselova won the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley.  She hit the wall in the freestyle in 1:52.49 and posted a winning time of 2:07.59 in the individual medley.  Olguin swam a time of 24.05 in the 50-yard freestyle and 52.16 in the 100-yard freestyle to sweep the two sprint events.

Lauren Peterson (Paradise Valley, AZ) swam well in the distance events.  She was the runner-up in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:54.72.  She was also third in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:27.18.

The UIW men struggled a bit after a tough week of work outs in California.  David Moore (San Antonio, TX) managed the only win for the team.  He took the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 1:53.03. 

The Cardinals were runner-ups in eight different events and they finished second and third in three races.  Connor Hennessy (San Antonio, TX) and Kyrylo Shvets (Kharkiv, Ukraine) were second and third in the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:37.81 and 9:39.82, respectively.  Beau Fusilier (Georgetown, TX) and Jack Hennessy (San Antonio, TX) followed suit in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:40.65 and 1:43.48.  Connor Hennessy and Moore took silver and bronze in the 500-yard freestyle.  Hennessy finished in 4:40.41 while Moore was right behind in 4:41.43.

The Cardinals honored their senior prior to the meet as this is the only meet of the season where both the men and women compete on campus at the same time.
