Scott Shaw (San Antonio/Churchill HS) won the men's golf season opening tournament at Texas Wesleyan Invitational on Tuesday. (

Shaw entered the final round with a six stroke lead and he held onto it with a solid 1-under par 71 on the par-72, 6898-yard Hawks Creek Golf Club. He coasted to his first career victory with an 8-under par total for the 54-hole tournament. Teammate
Austin Wylie (Boerne/Boerne HS) finished in fourth place overall with a 1-over par 73 in the final round to finish at even par overall.
The Cardinals finished in second place as a team despite shooting their best round of the tournament on Tuesday. They posted a team score of 1-under par 287, but host Texas Wesleyan won the tournament with a 6-under par 282 in the final round.
Cole Solis (San Antonio/The Episcopal School of Texas),
Myles Dumont (Eagle Lake/Rice Consolidated HS) and
Caden Wylie (Boerne/Boerne HS) each played their best during the final round of the tournament. Solis fired a 73 and Dumont posted a 71 as each player tied for 13
th. Wylie shot a 72 and finished in 22
nd place. All three players moved up at least six places in the final round.
Texas Wesleyan won the tournament with an overall score of 7-over par 871. The Cardinals followed four strokes behind in second place. Our Lady of the Lake was third with 886 strokes and they were trailed by Texas Wesleyan 'B' (893), Tyler Junior College (907), UH-Victoria (912), St. Thomas (928) and Texas Wesleyan 'C' (931).
