OMAHA, NEBRASKA – A couple of home runs by Omaha backed a complete game gem from Tyler Fox, who held the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team to two runs in nine innings to even the series at one game apiece. Omaha came out on top with a 6-2 win on Friday at Ballpark at Boys Town.

The Cardinals (21-32) opened the scoring on a Trey Rodriguez (Corpus Christi/Carroll HS) 2-run double in the top of the second inning, but that would be all the offense they would get against Fox. The Mavericks (20-31) scored six unanswered runs the rest of the game and Fox settled down to shutout the Cardinals the rest of the way. He scattered six hits, allowed two runs, walked one and struck out two in his first complete game of the season.

Garret Cooper (Round Rock/McNeil HS) was tabbed with the loss after allowing six runs on 10 hits, while walking three and striking out six in 5.2 innings. Tyler Miller (Conroe/Oak Ridge HS) pitched 2.1 innings in relief without allowing a run and only gave up one hit. He did not issue a walk and he struck out two Mavericks.

Rodriguez collected the only two RBI's for the Cardinals and was the only UIW hitter with a multi-hit game. He finished the afternoon 2-for-2 with two runs batted in and a walk. Christian Divelbiss (Yuba City/Yuba City HS) and Colton Besett (Cedar Park/Vista Ridge HS) scored the only runs.

Clayton Taylor led the Mavericks with a 3-for-3 day, including his second home run of the series and three RBI's. Alex Mortensen also homered on the day and Cole Gruber drove in a pair of runs and stole a base in the win.

The Mavericks out hit UIW 11-6 and committed two errors while the Cardinals committed just one.  Game three is set for Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
