SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team remains on the road for a mid-week game at Texas State on Tuesday night with the first pitch schedule for 6 p.m.

The Cardinals (11-19) ran into a buzz saw last weekend with the Nicholls State University pitching staff limiting them to four runs in three games.  Ethan McGill (Penn Valley, CA/Nevada Union HS) leads the team with a .320 batting average to go with 11 doubles and 13 driven in.  Matt Morris (Scottsdale, AZ/Saguaro HS) has a .291 batting average and leads the team with 18 runs, 12 doubles, three homers and 17 walks while also driving in 17.

UIW will likely start senior Kris Looper (Wharton/Wharton HS) on the mound.  He is coming off his best start of the season last week.  Overall, he is 0-3 with a 7.61 earned run average in 23.2 innings of work.  Garret Cooper (Round Rock/McNeil HS) has been the team's workhorse with a 4-3 record and a 3.51 ERA in 48.2 innings.  John Shull (San Antonio/Churchill HS) has made the most appearances for the team with 16 outings encompassing 27.1 innings.

The Bobcats (15-15-1) are 8-9-1 at home this year and they are 8-4 in the Sun Belt Conference.  The team is hitting .237 with nearly five runs per game.  Cedric Vallieres and Granger Studdard have been the top hitters on the team.  Vallieres is hitting .283 with six doubles, six homers, 19 RBI's and 28 runs.  Studdard is hitting .274 with six homers and 18 runs batted in.

Texas State is playing their best baseball of the season after winning three straight games from Baylor this past weekend.  The pitching staff has a 4.77 earned run average and is holding opponents to a .278 batting average.  Montana Parsons is the likely starting pitcher.  He is 0-3 with a 4.40 ERA in 28.2 innings of work this season.  Blake Whitter handles the closer role with a 2-2 record and five saves in 17 appearances.
