CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team played their final match of the season on Sunday against Texas A&M Corpus Christi. They lost 5-0 at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center in the Southland Conference matchup.
The Cardinals have had a tough season this year, going 2-21 overall and 0-11 in the conference. In the doubles competition the Islanders (12-8, 6-4) secured the first point, winning two out of the three matches. Rachel Sadiq and Sarah Savedra lost 8-3 to Celia Rodriguez and Judit Vives, while Matea Zemunik and Antea Dedic lost 8-1 to Chelsea Horan and Jelena Dzinic.
In the singles contests the Cardinals were unable to thwart the momentum of A&M Corpus Christi and lost four of the contests in straight sets. The #1 and #2 seeded games went unfinished, however losses at the #3, #4, #5 and #6 gave the Islanders the win.
Malissa Vatanadilok lost 6-2, 6-0 against Maider Martin at the #4 sport, Dedic lost 6-0, 6-1 against Kerry Galhos at #6, Savedra lost 6-1, 6-1 against Rodriguez at #3 and Taryn Strahl lost 6-0, 6-1 against Horan at the #5.
