Women's Tennis Falls in Heartbreaker at SLC Championship

BEAUMONT, TEXAS – The Incarnate Word women's tennis team suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Stephen F. Austin on Sunday afternoon on the opening day of play at the Southland Women's Tennis Championship from the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center.

Incarnate Word finishes the 2026 season with a 6-11 overall record and a 5-4 mark in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Stephen F. Austin won the opening match in doubles play, the No. 2 duo of grad student Alexandra Paule Jacqueline Mille and senior Amelie Montalvo won 6-3 to even the doubles count.
  • The All-Conference senior duo of Estefania Gonzalez and Ine Lamprecht clinched the doubles point for Incarnate Word with a 7-5 victory on court one.
  • The Lumberjacks tallied wins at Nos. 2 and 4 in singles play, while a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 by Southland Player of the Year Estefania Gonzalez kept the score even a two-point apiece with three singles matches to go.
  • A three-set win at No. 3 gave SFA a brief lead before Mille battled to a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 win at No. 6 to force a winner-take-all showdown on court five.
  • In the final singles match, Stephen F. Austin collected a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win to advance in the tournament.
