Baseball Postpones Start of SFA Series

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team is back home after a 1-8 road trip as they host Stephen F. Austin on a three-game Southland Conference series this weekend at Sullivan Field.

Friday's 6:30 p.m. game has been postponed due to inclement weather and instead, the Cardinals will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 3:00 p.m., and will conclude the series Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

The Cardinals (11-24, 2-13 SLC) will look to bounce back from a current eight-game losing streak, which includes one-run losses to Texas State and Baylor.  UIW is hitting .241 as a team and is averaging 4.1 runs per contest. Christian Divelbiss (Yuba City, CA/Yuba City HS) leads the offense with a .310 batting average, while collecting five doubles, two triples and 16 RBI's. Ethan McGill (Penn Valley/Nevada Union HS) and Matt Morris (Scottsdale, AZ/Saguaro HS) have been a big part of the Cardinals offense. McGill is hitting .295 with 11 doubles, one home run, 17 runs and 15 RBI's while Morris has a .278 batting average to go along with a team-high 20 runs, 37 hits, 12 doubles, three home runs and 17 RBI's.

The Cardinals' projected starters for the series are Geno Encina (San Antonio/Brandeis HS), Garret Cooper (Round Rock/McNeil HS) and Brandon Anderson (Cheyenne, WY/Cheyenne Central HS). Encina is 1-3 on the year, but leads the trio with a 3.18 ERA. He has walked five and struck out 21 in 28.1 innings. The Lumberjacks (12-24, 6-11 SLC) are on a current six-game losing streak, which includes a three game sweep at home by Houston Baptist. Their expected pitching rotation for this weekend is Cameron Gann (3-2, 2.75), Dillon Mangham (2-6, 5.77) and Jarred Greene (1-4, 8.51). Nick Ramos leads the team with a .295 batting average while Kyle Thornell and Dan O'Neill are tied for the team lead in RBI's with 18 apiece.
