NATCHITOCHES, LOUISIANA – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team will be entering Southland Conference play on the road against Northwestern State this weekend. The teams will play a double header on Friday at 3 p.m. and they will close out the series on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Cardinals (3-14) went 2-2 at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic last weekend. They defeated Jackson State on Friday, 7-5 and on Saturday, 6-3. They lost to Southern Miss and Mississippi Valley State.
Brooke DuBois (Pearland/Pearland HS) had two strong pitching outings for the team.
The Cardinals are hitting .245 as a team and averaging three runs per game.
Danielle Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) leads the team with a .375 batting average while
Katie Helm (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) has a team best .450 on-base percentage and .516 slugging percentage.
Kristin Hebert (Humble/Atascocita HS) has been the top pitcher on the team with a 2-4 record and a 5.11 earned run average.
Northwestern State (9-12) is coming off two consecutive losses to nationally ranked LSU. They are hitting .283 as a team and scoring nearly five runs per game. Kellye Kincannon is hitting .359 with five homers, 20 RBI's and 14 runs scored. The team has hit 21 total home runs. Micaela Bouvier has pitched the most innings for the team and has a 4-4 record with a 4.37 ERA in 41.2 innings of work.
Last year, the Demons took 2-of-3 games from the Cardinals in Natchitoches.
