SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team is 21-2 at the McDermott Center over the past two years and they will put that record on the line on Tuesday night when they host Southland Conference rival Nicholls at 7 p.m.
The Cardinals (13-6, 5-4) are currently sitting in fifth place in the conference and have won four of their last five Southland games. UIW is third in the nation in scoring at 83.4 points per game and 17
th in field goal percentage. They are second in the nation in points scored from the free throw line.
The Cardinals are led by senior guard
Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) who is fourth in the nation in scoring and 12
th in steals. He averages 21.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Freshmen
Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) and
Traylin Farris (Pearland/Manvel HS) are averaging 17.0 and 10.1 points per game, respectively. Junior
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) is averaging 14.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while shooting 45.5 percent from three-point range.
The Colonels (7-13, 4-6) have won their last two conference games and will be looking to edge closer to .500. They have a balanced offensive attack led by Amin Torres' 10.8 points per game. Sam McBeath chips in with 8.1 points and a team high 6.3 rebounds per game.
The Cardinals defeated the Colonels, 69-58 in their first meeting this year less than two weeks ago. UIW had four players score in double figures led by Hittle who had 16 points and seven rebounds. McBeath had a big game for Nicholls with 21 points and nine rebounds.
UIW is celebrating Military Appreciation Night and all active and retired members of the military with a valid I.D. will be admitted to the game free of charge.
