Men's Basketball Hosts Stephen F. Austin

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team has a big matchup on Monday night at 7 p.m. against Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin at the McDermott Center.

The Cardinals (15-6, 7-4) have won six of their last seven conference games and are 8-1 at home this year.  They are one of the top scoring teams in the nation with 82.6 points per game.  Senior Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) leads the team and conference with 22.9 points per game and he is also chipping in with 6.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.7 steals per game.  Junior Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) is averaging 15.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game and is 28 points away from becoming the 15th member of the UIW 1,000-point club.

UIW has won their last two games despite missing starters Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) and Mitchell Badillo (Houston/Cy-Falls HS) who are out with injuries.  They have combined for over 25 points per game, but freshman Traylin Farris (Pearland/Manvel HS) has started to pick up some of the slack.  He is now averaging 10.2 points per game, his highest average of the season.

The Lumberjacks (20-4, 10-1) had their 19-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a loss at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.  They are averaging 76.2 points per game while allowing 62.1 points per game on the season.  Thomas Walkup is the team's leading scorer and rebounder at 14.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while handing out over three assists per game.  Jacob Parker, the 2013-14 Southland Player of the Year, is averaging 13.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.  Trey Pinckney runs the point and is averaging 4.0 assists per game.

Last year, the Cardinals and Lumberjacks played a thrilling game in Nacogdoches.  Stephen F. Austin won the game on a buzzer-beating tip-in.  EAP is offering free popcorn and soda to all EAP students and two fans will have a chance to win $5,000 worth of prizes at halftime.
