CONWAY, ARKANSAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team heads to Southland Conference rival University of Central Arkansas for a Friday night contest at 7 p.m.
The Cardinals (14-6, 6-4) have won five of their last six games and have been climbing the conference standings in recent weeks. They are one of the top scoring teams in the nation with an average of 82.8 points per game while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from three-point range. Senior guard
Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) is third in the nation in scoring (22.5 ppg) and he is eighth in steals (2.70 spg). He is also averaging 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. He needs just three points to become the first player in school history to score 1,000 points as a member of NCAA Division I.
Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) was averaging 17 points per game prior to Tuesday's game when he did not score in three minutes of action.
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) is scoring 14.9 points per game and leads the team with 42 three-pointers and 6.3 rebounds per game. He needs 45 points to become the 15
th player in school history to reach 1,000 for his career.
The Bears (1-20, 1-9) have really struggled this year, but have been playing better in recent weeks at home. They won their last home game against New Orleans on February 7 and they nearly upset Northwestern State on February 3 when they lost 110-108. Jordan Howard leads the team with 15.9 points per game and has made 50 three-pointers. Mike Martin is averaging 11.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while Jake Zuilhof chips in with 10.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
The Cardinals defeated the Bears last year, 87-72 in San Antonio. UIW had five players score in double figures in the game and former center
Ian Markolf grabbed 19 rebounds.
