ARLINGTON, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team will be traveling for their second pre-season tournament of the season at the UT-Arlington Maverick Invitational February 12-14.

UIW will be facing the host, the University of Texas-Arlington (4-1), on Thursday at 7 p.m.  They will play Ohio State (4-0) on Friday at 12:30 p.m. followed by another match against UTA at 5 p.m.  Saturday will bring on Sam Houston State (0-5) at 10 a.m. with the last game against the University of Buffalo (2-3) at 2:30 p.m.

The Cardinals (1-4) won their season opener against Tennessee State in the Louisiana Classic Tournament last weekend, 3-2.  However, in the matches against the University of the Central Arkansas and Eastern Illinois University, they couldn't quite pull themselves together.  The Cardinals dropped two games to both teams.

The Cardinals are offensively led by Danielle Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) who is hitting .444 with four runs and three stolen bases.  Alex Zepeda (Sinton/Sinton HS) is hitting .385 with a triple.  In the circle, Kristin Hebert (Humble/Atascocita HS) is 1-1 with a 2.44 earned run average in 14.1 innings per work.
