TULSA, OKLA. – The University of the Incarnate Word Men's tennis team dropped their second match of the new season after the University of Tulsa dealt them a 7-0 loss at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Sunday.

The No. 40 Hurricanes (3-1) stormed past the Cardinals (0-2) in singles play, winning four matches in straight sets. Josip Smoljan and Tucker Brown were the only UIW players to take their match into a three-set battle.

Smoljan lost against Dylan McCloskey in the #2 position, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6, while Brown was not able to hold on to a one set lead after taking the first set 7-5. At #3, Matthew Kirby went on to win the remaining two sets 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles action, a swift 6-0 win for Alejandro Espejo and Carlos Bautista against Phillip Raikovic and Ryan Hoverson set the pace for the remainder of the morning, with UIW posting just five winning games in the next two doubles matches.

The Cardinals remain on the road this week and head to Rice University on Friday for a 12 pm contest.
