Men's Tennis Advances to SLC Title Match

BEAUMONT, TEXAS – The Incarnate Word men's tennis team made quick work of its opening round opponent on Monday morning, downing Lamar University 4-0 at the Southland Men's Tennis Championship from the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center.

Incarnate Word, the tournament's top seed, is now 13-3 overall, while Lamar finished the 2026 season with a 12-14 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lamar won the opening doubles match before Incarnate Word rallied with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 to earn the first point of the day.
  • The tandem of grad student Emilio Vila and freshman Agustin Salazar won 6-4 on court three before the all-conference duo of senior Alejandro Hernandez and sophomore Alexandre Chauvel battled to a 7-6 (7-3) win in the No. 2 contest.
  • Salazar (No. 4) and fellow freshman Santiago Flyckt (No. 5) showed why they were each worthy of all-conference nods by winning 6-3, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-3 in their respective matchups.
  • On court one, Hernandez, the 2026 SLC Player of the Year, clinched the shutout with a 7-5, 6-3 victory to advance UIW into tomorrow's championship match.
