SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team will make the short trip on Wednesday to UTSA for a single game at 4 p.m. at Roadrunner Field.
The matchup will be the final non-conference game of the season for the Cardinals (20-28). The team is coming off a 9-3 victory over Central Arkansas on Saturday which just happened to be Senior Day. UIW is hitting .283 as a team and they are led by freshman
Mikaela Flores (Lockhart/Lockhart HS). She is hitting at a .408 clip with a team-high four home runs.
Brooke DuBois (Pearland/Pearland HS) chips in with a .354 batting average, three home runs and 14 RBI's in only 65 at bats.
Flores and DuBois are both on the UIW pitching staff, but it is freshman
Kristin Hebert (Humble/Atascocita HS) who has had the most success. She is 7-8 with a 3.97 earned run average in 102.1 innings.
The Roadrunners (22-28) are also playing their final non-conference game of the season. They are in their first season as a member of Conference USA. Their top player is Megan Low who leads the country with 22 home runs to go with a .388 batting average and 47 RBI's. The team has combined to hit 67 home runs on the season, but only has a .248 batting average.
UTSA has used three different pitchers this year with Kacy Freeze tossing the most innings. She is 11-11 with a 4.06 ERA in 157 innings pitched. Nicole Merril has gone 8-10 with a 2.97 ERA in 120.0 innings of work.
The last time the two teams met was in 1998 with the Cardinals coming away with a 4-0 victory.
