Cardinals Play Panthers

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team host Prairie View A&M University on Wednesday for a midweek matchup starting at 6 p.m. at Sullivan Field.

The Cardinals (12-24) went 1-2 this weekend against top Southland Conference side Nicholls State University and are hitting .248 for the season. Slade Brown holds the top spot with a .322 average from 143 at-bats.  Jessie Hoover serves as another top offensive threat, hitting .295 and posting a team high 23 RBI's after hitting his second home run of the season last week.

The pitching staff for the Cardinals has a 4.97 earned run average for the year.  They are led by Geno Encina who has a 2.69 ERA and 47 strikeouts.  He has made 10 starts this season and has a 5-5 record.  The likely starter for UIW is freshman Cody Richey who is 1-2 with a 6.05 ERA in 19.1 innings.

The Panthers (15-21) will be heading into the game just a day after a double-header against Huston-Tillotson. As a team they are hitting .271 with three players over the .300 mark. Greg Salcido posts a .354 average, while Cody Den Beste is hitting .333. Both have three home runs and over 20 RBI's. Although coming in behind with a batting average of .322, Dominiq Harris also offers an offensive threat for the Panthers with seven home runs and a team high of 41 RBI's.

On the mound for the Panthers, the pitching staff has 4.33 team ERA. Jordan Stewart has made the most appearances for Prairie View and has a 3.38 ERA.
