SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word will play a three-game softball series against visiting Southland Conference rival McNeese State starting on Saturday at 4 p.m. with a doubleheader and concluding on Sunday at noon. All three games will be played at Cardinals Field.
The Cardinals (15-22, 3-6) are hitting .291 as a team and average 4.6 runs per game. Freshman Alex Alonzo (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) has been the team's top run producer with 23 RBI's, eight doubles and two home runs.
Mikaela Flores (Lockhart/Lockhart HS) has been on a hot streak lately raising her batting average to .440 on the season to go with a .660 slugging percentage.
Kristin Hebert (Humble/Atascocita HS) leads the pitching staff with a 5-7 record and a 4.01 ERA.
The Cowgirls (28-10, 11-3) are hitting .276 as a team and average 5.1 runs per game. Alanna DiVittorio is hitting .396 with 41 runs, 27 stolen bases and five homers. Ashley Modzelewski swings a big bat leading the team with 11 homers and 38 runs batted in. McNeese has two outstanding pitchers in Rachel Smith and Jamie Allred. Smith is 6-2 with a 1.37 ERA while Allred is 17-5 with a 1.63 ERA.
The Cowgirls are currently in first place in the Southland Conference one game ahead of Lamar. The Cardinals are ineligible for postseason play this year.
