Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Visiting Abilene Christian University prevented the University of the Incarnate Word softball team from taking a 3-game series sweep on Sunday with a 3-0 win at Cardinals Field.
The Cardinals (13-16, 2-1) swept a doubleheader from their Southland Conference rivals on Saturday, but Emily Seidel pitched a gem for the Wildcats (11-17, 1-2). She kept the Cardinals off balance all game long allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out five in a complete game victory.
Seidel received all the offense she needed in the top of the third inning. Paige Stevens singled and stole second base with one out and then came around to score after an error by the Cardinals. The Wildcats tacked on a two more runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Lyndi Smith and a run-scoring triple from Courtney Flanary.
Brooke DuBois (Pearland/Pearland HS) was tagged with the loss for the Cardinals. She allowed seven hits, three runs and a walk while striking out six in 5.2 innings.
Kristin Hebert (Humble/Atascocita HS) tossed 2.1 perfect innings of relief.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against visiting Our Lady of the Lake for a doubleheader. It will be Strike Out Cancer Day at Cardinals Field.
