TULSA, OKLAHOMA – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team travels to Oral Roberts University on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. for the team's for game outside of San Antonio city limits in over a month.
The Cardinals (6-14) and Golden Eagles are Southland Conference members, but will be playing a non-conference game since they do not play each other this year in the conference schedule. UIW will be throwing
Geno Encina (San Antonio/Brandeis HS) who is 2-3 with a 3.41 ERA and only four walks in 29.0 innings of work. ORU will counter with Pepe Gomez at J.L. Johnson Stadium. He is 0-2 with a 3.97 ERA in 11.2 innings.
On offense, the Cardinals are led by
Slade Brown (Keller/Keller HS). He is hitting .351 and has reached base safely in all 20 games this year. He has a team high five doubles and 13 RBI's. Overall, the team is hitting .246 and average just under four runs per game. The pitching staff has a 6.17 ERA and has 99 strikeouts in 175.0 innings.
The Golden Eagles have two players on significant hot streaks at the plate. Matt Brandy has hit in 19 consecutive games while Emmanuel Forcier has reached base in 17 straight games. Brandy leads the team with a .343 batting average.
