SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team will play a four game series starting Thursday with visiting Central Michigan University.
The Cardinals (5-11) and Chippewas (7-9) will play at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday at Sullivan Field. UIW is 3-5 at home this year and have played all but three games within San Antonio.
The Cardinals are hitting .249 as a team. Freshman
Mark Whitehead (San Antonio/Johnson HS) leads the squad with a .333 average and .459 on-base percentage. He leads the Southland Conference with 14 walks and is on a 10-game hitting streak.
The UIW pitching staff had a strong series against Hofstra last week and will hope to repeat their performance.
Geno Encina (San Antonio/Brandeis HS) will likely start Game 1 and has a 2-2 record with a 3.27 ERA.

Dylan Boss (Boerne/Boerne HS) and
Jacob Potts (Glendale, AZ/Browne HS) have been the regular Game 2, 3 and 4 starters for the club.
The Chippewas are hitting .244 as a team and have outscored their opponents, 76-70. Logan Regnier leads the way with a .393 batting average while Tyler Huntey has three triples and 15 RBI's. The pitching staff has a 3.50 ERA and is holding opponents to a .253 batting average. Pat Kaminska has been the top starter with a 2-1 record and a 1.95 ERA in 27.2 innings.
