SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team was held to their lowest point total of the season in a 57-31 loss to UTSA on Sunday evening at the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic.
The Cardinals (2-4) struggled shooting from the floor and from the free throw line. They shot 25.6 percent from the field and were just 7-of-30 from the foul line.
Jazmine Holman (Arlington/Arlington Bowie HS) led UIW with nine points on 2-of-9 shooting from the field. She also had four rebounds and five assists for the game.
Yvonne Maosa (Mansfield/Mansfield HS) led the team with seven rebounds.
Haley Frias (Georgetown/Georgetown HS) had eight points and made the team's only two three point shots. She was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc and 3-for-7 from the field.
The Roadrunners out-rebounded the Cardinals 51 to 35 and also dominated the offensive boards 18 to nine. The Cardinals turned the ball over 15 times, while UTSA had 13.
The Roadrunners shot 38.3 percent from the field, made 4-of-19 from three-point range and were not much better than the Cardinals from the foul line going 7-for-17. Kamra King scored 14 points in only 18 minutes to lead all players in scoring. Crystal Chidimore added 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting and dished out three assists for a team high.
Neither team looked good on offense particularly the Cardinals who were held to four points over the final 13:22 of the first half. A 9-8 deficit turned into a 28-12 score by halftime. UIW did not eclipse 20 points in the game until a Frias three-pointer with 13:22 remaining, but by that time the team trailed by 19 points.
The Cardinals' next game is on the road as they travel to Lawrence, Kansas to face the Kansas on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
