LAWRENCE, KANSAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team played their fourth consecutive game away from home on Thursday night and lost, 68-46 at Kansas University.
The Jayhawks (6-2) used a couple of late first half buckets and a great start to the second half to hold off the Cardinals (2-5). Kansas turned a slim seven-point lead into 20-point advantage with a 17-4 run over a 7:15 span. Once they took the 20-point lead they never let the Cardinals get any closer than 16 points over the final 13:30.

Kate Henderson. "We are making improvements.

Haley Frias and
Quincy Baker each did good things for us that we can build upon."
The Cardinals shot 32.8 percent from the field, made 2-of-6 from three-point range and were 4-for-5 at the foul line. Maosa (Mansfield/Mansfield HS) pulled down a season high 13 rebounds to lead all players.
Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) and Frias (Georgetown/Georgetown HS) each scored 10 points to lead the team.
Jazmine Holman (Arlington/Arlington Bowie HS) picked up five steals on the defensive end. Overall, the team had 32 rebounds, nine assists and 17 turnovers.
The Jayhawks shot the ball well throughout the game finishing at 56.5 percent from the field while making 8-of-12 from three-point range. They did struggle at the foul line going 8-of-19. Chelsea Gardner led the team with 17 points and three blocks in just 21 minutes. Chayla Cheadle had 10 points and six rebounds while Natalie Knight had 11 points, six assists and five rebounds. They had 35 rebounds, 15 assists and 18 turnovers as a team.
The Cardinals finally return home on Wednesday for a 6 o'clock game against Texas Lutheran.
