SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team had their worst shooting game of the season in a 74-42 loss against Fordham University at the UTSA Convocation Center.  It was the first game of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic.

The Cardinals (2-3) missed their first eight shots of the game and it was unfortunately a preview of what the team could expect the rest of the game.  They went 9-for-36 from the floor in the first half and they were 10-of-31 in the second half.  Overall, the Cardinals shot 28.4 percent from the field and made 1-of-10 from beyond the three-point arc.

The Rams (4-2) had great success from outside as they knocked down 11-of-20 from three-point range.  Hannah Missry came off the bench to drain 4-of-7 from downtown and she led the team with 16 points overall.

One of the lone bright spots for the Cardinals came in turnover differential.  They forced the Rams into 20 turnovers while committing 16.  Freshman guard Melina Merritt (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge HS) picked up a season high five steals while leading the team with 10 points.  Yvonne Maosa led the team with 10 rebounds.  Overall, the team had 33 rebounds.

The Rams shot 49.1 percent from the field for the game and were 11-of-14 at the foul line.  Samantha Clark had a double-double with 15 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks.  Asnate Fomina had 11 points in just 15 minutes off the bench.  Tiffany Ruffin had a strong all-around game with eight points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. against the tournament host, UTSA.
