A Cardinals and Islanders Matchup

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team welcomes Southland Conference rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to Benson Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m. on Breast Cancer Awareness Night.

The Cardinals (1-10, 1-3) are coming off their first victory of the season and will try to make it two in a row against the Islanders (2-5-2, 1-3).  Last year, the Cardinals dispatched the Islanders, 3-0 in Corpus Christi.  After taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, UIW scored two quick goals in the second half to put the game away.

This year, the Cardinals have struggled to score with only six goals in 11 games.  Sarah Johnson (Austin/Home School) leads the team with three goals and an assist.  Heather Kowalik (Boerne/Champion HS) appears to have won the goalkeeper battle after keeping a clean sheet against Central Arkansas in her last appearance.  She has a 1.75 goals against average and has 24 saves in 360 minutes of action.

The Islanders also picked up their lone conference win of the season against Central Arkansas.  They have also scored only six goals on the season with six different players credited with a goal.  Goalkeeper Megan Delaney has had a strong season with 59 saves and a 1.38 GAA while playing every minute of the season.
