The men's meet was not as close as the women's, but UIW head coach Phil Davis was happy with his team's performance. "Meets like this can be really hard for those not close to our program to see the progress and positives that we coaches see," said Davis. "It doesn't look good on paper, but the fact is our team is in a really good place physically, and when it's time to go fast, we certainly will."
The Cardinals had a number of runner-up finishes that prevented them from drawing closer to the Aggies. Freshman
Nathan Coppock (San Antonio/Johnson HS) opened his career with a strong swim in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:47.78 to take second place. Sophomore
David Moore (San Antonio/Marshall HS) was out-touched at the wall in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:00.89 losing by 0.16.
Junior
Connor Hennessy (San Antonio/Business Careers HS) had an outstanding meet for UIW. He opened up with a strong second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.63. He came back near the end of the meet to win the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:34.77. "
Connor Hennessy got a huge win in the 500 for us," said Davis. "It was really one of the more dominant swims of the night regardless of gender. He led from wire to wire and it wasn't ever a question of if he was going to win, but how fast would he go."
The UIW men are back in action on November 7 at home against Trinity.
