RICHARDSON, TEXAS – University of the Incarnate Word senior Briana Sanchez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) was named the Lone Star Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday for the second time this year.

Sanchez was a workhorse for the Cardinals last week going a perfect 3-0 with three complete games against top competition.  She picked up a win over No. 22 St. Mary's last Tuesday.  She allowed six hits, three earned runs and two walks while striking out seven in a 6-5 win. Over the weekend, she picked up two wins over Midwestern State, the top hitting team in the nation.  In the first game of the series, she allowed 11 hits, five runs and two walks while striking out eight.  In the final game of the series, she tossed all 9.0 innings of the game giving up a total of four hits and four runs. She walked six and struck out six in the 5-4 win. 

Sanchez and Cardinals (22-13) travel to Texas A&M-International on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.  The Cardinals and Dustdevils have played three times previously this year with TAMIU winning twice.
