Cardinals Host No. 10 Pioneers

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team will wrap up home play this weekend with a series against No. 10 and Lone Star Conference leader Texas Woman's.  The Cardinals will get the series started with a doubleheader on Friday at noon and close out the series with a single game on Saturday at noon.

The Cardinals (29-16, 12-8) are looking to add another win to their record after sweeping LSC rival Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday.  The team is currently batting an even .300 for the season.  Sophomore Victoria Silva (San Antonio/Brandeis) leads the team in the category with a .419 batting average.  Senior third baseman Monica Acuna (San Antonio/Holmes) is a huge part of the Cardinal offense with a .376 batting average, 34 RBI's and 12 doubles.

Senior pitcher Briana Sanchez (San Antonio/Marshall) has been a strong choice for the Cardinals on the mound.  She picked up two big wins over West Texas A&M last week and added another one over A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday after being named the LSC Pitcher of the Week for the third time of the season.  Sanchez (16-8) has dished out 163 strikeouts this season and has a 2.26 ERA.

The Pioneers (37-11, 15-5) are currently on top in the LSC standings, but are coming off 1-1 split with Tarleton State on Tuesday.  Two Pioneers maintain a batting average over .400.  Katie Hines leads TWU with a .429 batting average, 67 RBI's and 22 homeruns.  Not far behind her is Bailey Vrazel with a .414 batting average and 53 runs.

Brandie Lander is TWU's favored pitcher. She has a 2.08 ERA and has allowed 45 walks and while striking out 107 this season. She is currently 17-5.
