SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Coming off a series win over No. 2 West Texas A&M, the University of the Incarnate Word softball team will get just a short break before Lone Star Conference rival Texas A&M-Kingsville comes to town. The Cardinals (27-16, 10-8) and Javelinas (12-29, 2-16) are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
The Cardinals are batting .299 as a team this season. Sophomore
Victoria Silva (San Antonio/Brandeis) leads the team with a .425 batting average, but senior third baseman
Monica Acuna (San Antonio/Holmes) is close behind her batting .381. Acuna also leads the team in doubles with 12 and RBI's with 34.
Senior pitcher
Briana Sanchez (San Antonio/Marshall) picked up two huge wins over West Texas A&M last weekend and improved her record to 15-8 on the season. She has recorded 158 strikeouts and 57 walks with a 2.36 ERA on the year.
The Javelinas are batting .266 this season. Rose Stubbs leads the Kingsville offense with a .404 batting average while Adela Gomez leads with 38 RBI's and nine homeruns. Sharing time on the mound for the Javelinas are Denise Arnold (6-15) and Katrisha Arocha (6-13). Arnold has a 4.40 ERA while Arocha has a 4.93 ERA.
After the Javelinas, the Cardinals will take on Texas Woman's in a weekend series with a doubleheader on Friday at noon and a single game on Saturday at noon.
