Softball Heads to Eastern

PORTALES, NEW MEXICO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team heads to Lone Star Conference rival Eastern New Mexico for a three game series this weekend.  The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. and a single game on Saturday at noon.

The Cardinals (17-10, 3-3) have won their last three games scoring 27 runs in the process.  They are hitting .293 as a team and have a 3.28 earned run average.  Alex Zepeda (Sinton/Sinton HS) leads the team with a .380 batting average and has scored 17 runs on the season.  Monica Acuna (San Antonio/Holmes HS) is hitting .368 with a team high 20 runs batted in.  Briana Sanchez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) is the team's top pitcher with a 9-4 record and a 1.65 ERA.  She has 96 strikeouts in 89.1 innings.

The Zias (8-24, 1-5) are hitting .291 as a team, but own a 7.95 earned run average.  Kyra Sirag and Erica Armendarez provide the power in the lineup.  Sirag is hitting .354 with 20 RBI's while Armendarez is hitting .283 with three homers and 22 RBI's.
