Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team did not have much success against visiting Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday night falling in three sets at the McDermott Center 25-21, 25-19, 25-17.
The Cardinals (5-7) were outplayed in most aspects of the match against the Javelinas (8-8) who have now won the last seven times the two teams have played. A&M-Kingsville had a great night on the attack posting a team attack percentage of .338 while playing excellent defense.
The Cardinals only had four fewer kills than the Javelinas, but they had eight more attack errors plus 10 more errors than the visitors in the service game. UIW had 35 kills, 28 digs and only 4.0 blocks.
Shaina Garza (San Antonio/Warren HS) and
Angelique Vidaurri (San Antonio/Southwest HS) each had 10 kills for the team.
Danielle Suarez (San Antonio/Antonian HS) dished out 17 assists while
Taylor McClelland (Cypress/Cypress Ranch HS) added 15 assists.
The Javelinas finished with 39 kills, 50 digs and 5.0 blocks. Dedra Brown led a balanced attack with 10 kills while Stephanie Johns and Kalani Giddens each had .625 attack percentages. Sarah Fountain directed the attack with 26 assists while Giselle Carreon and Brittany Gutierrez each had 10 digs.
The Cardinals are back in action on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Southland Conference rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
