It was a game of home runs as the Cardinals took on the Aggies of Cameron University on Saturday in less than perfect weather conditions.  Despite homers from designated player Lea Padilla and left fielder Sarah O'Brien, UIW fell to the Aggies 5-4.
 
The Cardinals started their scoring early in the game, getting shortstop Ashley Freeman in for an unearned run in the first inning.  Unfortunately, Cameron had the same idea in mind.  The Aggies put a run on the scoreboard themselves after Cameron third baseman Drew Wright sent on over the fence at center field.  Wright would also hit a huge double in the bottom of the seventh inning, driving in one last run for the Aggies and giving them the win.
 
Padilla stepped up to the plate in the third inning and showed the Aggies that the Cardinals were ready for a win when she smashed the ball over center field for a one run home run.  In competitive fashion, Cameron catcher Sonia Foutch hit a homerun off Cardinal pitcher Briana Sanchez in the third inning as well, tying the score after the third inning at two.
 
The Cardinals wouldn't score again until the top of the sixth.  O'Brien bombed one to center field for another one run homer for the Cardinals.  This run came after Cameron catcher Leslie Martini's two-run slam in the bottom of the fifth.
 
UIW center fielder Mallory Henry singled at the top of the seventh and then advanced to second on an error before stealing third to get in scoring position for the Cardinals.  Padilla hit one down the left side for another single and drove Henry in for a run, tying the score at four.
 
The Cardinal defense wouldn't be able to the Aggies in the bottom of the seventh and Wright's double sealed their fate.
 
The second game of the double header was postponed until Sunday because of showers.  Sunday's double header is set to start at noon.
