The Cardinals (7-14, 4-8) dominated play through the entire first set and the majority of the second set. They easily won the first set behind a .333 team attack while holding the Aggies (8-15, 3-9) to a .056 attack. In the second set, the Cardinals appeared to be well on their way to another win when they took a 20-13 lead after a kill by
Stephanie Bonura (Houston/Lutheran North HS).
However, the tide turned as the Aggies suddenly went on the offensive. They scored 12 of the final 14 points of the set pounding out 10 kills in the process to even up the match. In the third and fourth sets, the Aggies were able to pull out close victories to finish the match.
The Cardinals finished with 50 kills, 83 digs and 11.0 blocks while posting a .166 attack. Freshman
Angelique Vidaurri (San Antonio/Southwest HS) led the attack with 12 kills, four blocks and a .444 attack percentage. Bonura added 12 kills, four blocks and a .241 attack.
Lydia Werchan (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley HS) led the team with 26 digs while
Baleigh Schaetter (Fredericksburg/Fredericksburg HS) posted a career high eight blocks. Setter
Danielle Suarez (San Antonio/Antonian Prep) finished with 20 assists and 13 digs for a double-double.
The Aggies tallied 57 kills, 90 digs and 3.0 blocks to go with a .159 attack. Kathryn Evans led all players with 22 kills and a .254 attack while Shannon Dulaney added 17 kills. Jenna Risoli dished out 50 assists and had 15 digs while Julisa Ocasio finished with an incredible 36 digs.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they take on conference rival Midwestern State.
