CARDINALS HOST LADY BUFFS

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team plays Lone Star Conference rival West Texas A&M on Friday at 7 p.m. at Benson Stadium.  The game will be one of three home games to wrap up regular season play for the Cardinals.

Earlier in the season, the Cardinals (7-6, 7-4) beat West Texas A&M, 4-1 at their place. With a conference record of 8-3, the Lady Buffs currently hold the top spot in Lone Star Conference rankings while the Cardinals sit in second.  After taking on UIW on Friday, West Texas A&M has matches against Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico left on their schedule. All games will be played on the road.

The last time they played, junior and current leading scorer for the Cardinals Amber Guenther (San Antonio/Johnson) walked away with her first hat trick of the season while junior Katie Miller (Tyler/Home School) added a goal of her own. The Cardinals outshot the Lady Buffs, 14-8.

Despite five saves in the match, West Texas A&M goalkeeper Yvette Bedoy let in four goals.  Bedoy has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week three times this season. Leslie Briggs heads up the Lady Buff offense with 14 goals and five assists.

After Friday's match with West Texas A&M, the Cardinals will take on Eastern New Mexico University at home on Sunday at 12 p.m.
