The Mustangs (3-8-3, 3-4-3) were able to get on the board first when Morgan Hannon scored her first goal of the season coming off the assist from Payton Fookes' free kick chance. The goal came at 54:19, but the MSU lead was short-lived.
Eighteen seconds after Hannon's goal,

th minute, but that was as close as the teams would get to preventing extra time.

However, Guenther struck with her team-leading seventh goal of the season with just 12 seconds remaining in the period. Her goal came after a crossing pass was redirected by the goalkeeper right to her.
The Cardinals outshot the Mustangs, 15-8 in the contest. Freshman
Karly Brightwell (Houston/Elkins HS) picked up her first career win in goal for the Cardinals and only had to make one save in the game. Mallory Whitworth was handed the loss for the Mustangs despite making five saves.
