After falling to Abilene Christian last week in a five set match, the Cardinals set out for a win on Monday night. Things weren't looking too promising after the Cardinals dropped the first two sets to the Wildcats, giving them a 2-0 lead. The Cardinals answered with a 25-18 win in set three and then held the wildcats to a mere 18 points in set four and five.
Senior middle blocker Daniella Vidaurri had quite a night leading UIW with 15 kills and a phenomenal 10 blocks; five of those solo blocks. Coming back from an injury, sophomore outside hitter Elizabeth Soukup saw some more time and followed Vidaurri in kills with 13. Sophomore setter Danielle Suarez had another solid performance with 31 assists as did senior setter Sarah Nordman with 23. Junior libero Lydia Werchan kept Wildcat attacks from hitting the floor with 31 digs.
The Cardinals maintained a hitting percentage above .350 for the last three sets of the match.
Senior outside hitter led ACU in kills with 19 for the night. Helping her and the rest of the team out was freshman setter Haley Rhoads with 40 assists. ACU had 51 assists as a team. Senior libero Kelsie Edwards and junior right side Kalynne Allen both had a total of 21 digs. ACU only registered 5 team blocks.
The Cardinals record is now 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the Lone Star Conference. The Cardinals resume conference play at home on Thursday, Sept. 22 against Texas A&M Commerce. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
