Incarnate Word freshman Elodie Barre' is headed for the NCAA Division II National Championship Indoor Track and Field meet and along the way she has gained another honor.
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced its all-region teams and Barre' is on the list in the South Central. Criteria for the all-region squad is to have a top five time or distance in the region in at least one event.
Back on February 18 at the University of Nebraska Tune-up Meet she ran a 24.91 in the 200-meters. That effort did several things. It is the new UIW school mark for the 200. It gave her the fourth best time in the South Central which earned this latest award.
And most importantly it is the ninth best time in the nation to date and that effort punched her ticket to the national championship meet March 11-12 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Barre' is the first woman athlete at Incarnate Word to reach the national meet indoors.
The Lone Star Conference was represented on the all-region team by athletes from only two other schools—Abilene Christian with three and Angelo State with five.
