Three University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball players were recognized by the Lone Star Conference at the 2010-11 LSC Women's Basketball Championship Award Banquet in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, on Tuesday night.
Freshman forward Ifunanya Mora was named to the South Division All-Conference Second Team and junior Chloe Wallace and sophomore Katy Cooke were both named South Division Honorable Mention for their efforts this season for UIW.
It was the first season for each player in a Cardinals uniform.
Mora, from Grand Prairie, Texas, finished her first season at Incarnate Word with 11.3 points-per-game and 7.3 rebounds-per-game. She led UIW in steals (47), blocks (15) while finishing second in total points scored (283), points-per-game, total rebounds and offensive rebounding (57), while being the third-best passer on the team with 42 assists.
Her field goal percentage from the floor was 40.2% and she was just under 66% from the free throw line. She earned an LSC South Division Defensive Player of the Week award during the season as well.
Junior transfer Chloe Wallace led the Cardinals in points (314 total, 12.1 per game) and rebounds (7.7 per game, 199 total) and recorded seven double-doubles in 26 games played (starting 24). She was second on the team in blocks (13) and free throw shooting (69.4%).
Wallace transferred to UIW from Temple Junior College.
Fellow transfer Katy Cooke, from Tennessee Tech, calls Marble Falls her home and made a big impact for the Cardinals in her first season. She finished the year with a 10.1 points-per-game average (third-best on the team) and led UIW in free throw shooting at 78.3 percent – at one point having her average up in the 80s and being nationally ranked for most of the season. She also led the team in assists (107) and made more three-point shots (32) than anyone else on the team.
She had the second-most steals on the team (36) and was a 37.4% shooter from the floor. Cooke also earned a LSC South Division Offensive Player of the Week award.
All three are currently up for consideration for the 2011 DAKTRONICS All-South Central Region Team.
