MORA, COOKE, WALLACE LEAD UIW PAST MIDWESTERN STATE, 60-51

Ifunanya Mora scored 20 points against Midwestern State to help lead UIW past the Mustangs, 60-51, on Saturday.

Back at home in the McDermott Center on Saturday, the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team faced off against Midwestern State University in a battle between two teams tied for fourth place in the Lone Star Conference South division.

Both teams had identical overall and conference records, but after the game the Cardinals had beaten the Mustangs, 60-51, to get a leg up in the battle for one of the top four spots in the division (the top four seeds in the LSC divisions get into the LSC Women's Basketball Tournament at the end of the regular season).

UIW (6-10, 2-2) had an impressive effort from freshman Ifunanya Mora, who finished the game with a game-high 20 points – 18 of those points coming in the second half. She was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line and shot 50 percent from the floor (6-of-12) while grabbing 8 rebounds.

Helping Mora out on the floor was guard Katy Cooke (4-10 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from the three-point line and 6-of-6 from the free throw line) who had 17 points, four assists and three steals while playing every minute of the game. Also scoring in double digits was forward Chloe Wallace, whose 11 points and 14 rebounds for the game's only double-double.

Incarnate Word led 30-27 at halftime and out-rebounded the Mustangs 41-to-26.

Up next for the Cardinals is a Wednesday night showdown against Abilene Christian University at 5:30 p.m.
