The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team had its second three-game winning streak of the 2009-2010 season end with a 83-73 loss to University of Central Oklahoma in the St. Mary's Classic on Wednesday.
The Cardinals committed 24 turnovers to the 13 by UCO and surrendered the lead with 7:53 left to play in the second half. UIW (7-5 overall) was able to chip away at the lead and get to within three points (69-66) with 3:08 to play, but could not finish the comeback.
Jasmine Smith and Nia Torru both scored 16 points (Smith had 8 rebounds and Torru 7) while Cinnamon Kava added 15 points (hitting 3-of-7 three point attempts).
The Cardinals will try to bounce back from Wednesday's loss when they return home to the UIW McDermott Center on Saturday, January 2nd, in a 2 p.m. Heartland Conference game against Newman University.
