Women's Soccer returns home looking to get back on track

SAN ANTONIO -- Coming off arguably the toughest regular-season stretch in program history, the University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team hopes to find renewed success when it returns to Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.

After starting out 3-0, the Cardinals faced consecutive games against Power 4 teams SMU, Miami and Texas, which ultimately led to their record dropping to 3-3.

UIW, which outscored its opponents 11-1 in its first two home games of the season, will hope for similar results when it hosts Tarleton State at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Below is a preview of the matchup.

Tarleton State (0-2-3)

WHEN AND WHERE: Thursday, 7 p.m., Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium

ABOUT THE TEXANS: Tarleton enters Thursday looking for its first win of the season. The Texans will be playing a Southland Conference opponent for the fourth time, having previously taken on Texas A&M Corpus Christi (tied, 2-2), UTRGV (lost, 1-0) and Lamar (tied, 1-1). Offense has been a bit difficult to come by for TSU, which has failed to score multiple goals in a game since the season opener against TAMU-CC. No Texan player has recorded multiple goals or assists.

MATHCUP HISTORY: This marks the third season in a row the two teams have played, with Tarleton State holding a 1-0-1 advantage in the series. The Cardinals played to a 1-1 tie in San Antonio in 2024 before the Texans earned a decisive 4-1 win in Stephenville last season.
