The Incarnate Word women's track and field team had two podium finishes and another pair of runners qualify for finals on the first day of the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships on Thursday.
Alaine Hernandez tied with two other athletes with the top-cleared height in pole vault at 3.87 meters and took the bronze medal due to tiebreakers.
Jai'Lin King also earned a third-place finish for the Cardinals, hers coming in long jump with a distance of 5.95 meters.
Dasya Tolbert and Isabella Gonzalez-Velasquez qualified for the 400-meter hurdles finals on Saturday, both running 1:07.77 in their respective heats. Tolbert finished 0.001 seconds ahead of her teammate in the qualifiers.
The first four of the seven heptathlon events were completed on Thursday and Gonzalez-Velasquez is holding down the third spot with 3,248 points. She won the high jump with a cleared height of 1.76 meters and placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.16 seconds. Gonzalez-Velasquez added a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 25.80 seconds and 14th in shot put with a top throw of 10.30 meters.
Incarnate Word continues the Southland Outdoor Championships on Friday.
