The Incarnate Word women's track and field team had a few personal- and season-bests set on the first day of the Michael Johnson Invitational, hosted by Baylor University.
The Cardinals had three athletes finish in the top 10 of the 400 meter hurdles,
Dasya Tolbert in 6th, Isabella Gonzalez-Velasquez in 7th, and Lexie Lean in 9th. Tolbert set a season-best time with a 1:00.37 finish and Gonzalez-Velasquez posted a personal-best time of 1:00.43. Leal came in about a second after her teammates at 1:01.39.
Janelle Herrera had a personal-best showing in hammer throw with a distance of 39.66 meters, which placed her 16th in the event.
The Cardinals had a handful of other notable results throughout the first day.
Alaine Hernandez placed ninth in the pole vault, clearing 3.88 meters,
Marie Vazeilles finished 0.002 seconds outside of the top 10 in 1,500 meters,
Fatima Montes took 12th in discus with a throw of 41.79 meters,
Jai'Lin King jumped 5.45 meters to place 15th in long jump, and a
Vera Maisaje and
Sofia Cantor finished 14th and 17th, respectively, in the 5,000 meters.
Incarnate Word finishes the Michael Johnson Invite tomorrow.
